Operating since 1753 Douwe Egberts has become our primary coffee supplier, providing a mixture of roast and ground coffees that give out a rich, velvety flavour.

Recent Times
In 2011, it was decided to separate the international coffee and tea business from the Sara Lee organisation, and in June 2012, the new company, with a name that links our past to our future, was listed on NYSE Euronext – D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753.
Douwe Egberts works closely with the UTZ foundation to offer coffee that is ethically and sustainably sourced ensuring great coffee can continue to be grown and sold for generations to come. In fact, Douwe Egberts purchases more UTZ certified coffee beans than any other company in the world!

Douwe Egberts is a highly respected quality coffee brand in the UK. With over 260 years of coffee roasting expertise and coffee innovation, they are continually focusing on delivering a better cup of coffee to the out of home market.
They have been blending, roasting and selling coffee since 1753 so they know more than most about what it takes to make a great cup of coffee. The Douwe Egberts story began in a small shop in Joure, Netherlands. The owner ‘Egberts Douwes’ was a trader who sold tea, coffee and tobacco through his shop. When he died he passed the business onto his son who was called….. Douwe Egberts ( it was the tradition of the time to reverse your name for your son’s name). Douwe Egbert’s coffee began to take off, he began expanding the business and roasting his own coffee on a larger scale.
As the business developed, its headquarters were moved to Utrecht and the iconic Douwe Egberts seal was incorporated into the company’s logo.
In 1978, Douwe Egberts was acquired by Sara Lee, and as part of this global food and beverage organisation, the company moved into new markets. Innovation drove the business forward, and in 1998 the organisation expanded into Brazil. The Out of Home business also expanded rapidly during the 1990s, with the Cafitesse liquid coffee system becoming widely popular in offices, health care organisations, hotels and other public buildings.

All Le Royal products perform well in vending machines and a major part of the assortment is agglomerated which ensures an outstanding performance in vending machines even in high humidity environments.

Birchall’s award-winning speciality and everyday black teas are sourced exclusively from estates across East Africa. Birchall’s pursuit of quality ensures all leaves are only ever hand-picked.
Today group turnover is over $100 million USD. It is one of the top three largest exporters- and tea buyers- in East Africa, Kenya and Rwanda. Millions of Kilos of tea are brought and sold around the world each year.
It is also the only independent UK tea company to handle tea at all levels of the supply chain: production, logistics, delivery, trade and exports: from point-of-origin through to point-of-sale.
